The Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies’ 3rd Wildlife Viewing and Nature Tourism Training Academy is going to be held February 17 - 21, 2020 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. This is an international event with people coming from all over the U.S. and Canada. The focus for this conference is providing practical training, case studies, successful programming agencies or organizations are currently using, and more so that participants leave the academy with real world examples of wildlife viewing and nature tourism programs and projects that they can implement in their own organizations. Additionally, there will be opportunities to network and meet with other professionals in this field.

The Association of Fish and Wildlife Agency is looking for engaging presentations, programs, case studies, data, and more on the following topics:

Focal Topics Include:

  • Human Dimensions and Diversity: For example: age, ethnicity, mentally and physically challenged groups, public interest/expectations, agency relevancy or regional variations in attitudes and interests
  • Outreach and Communications: For example: wildlife cams, expanding/engaging audiences, marketing, communication techniques, outreach methods i.e. social media, general uses of technologies or connecting wildlife viewers to citizen science
  • Best Practices and Ethics: For example: research, coordination, networks of partnerships and support, environmental/conservation education, wildlife viewer roles, WVNT impacts/challenges in conservation or quality of life
  • Birding and Wildlife Trails: For example: development and maintenance of trails, innovations in trail design, marketing and promotion or funding
  • Finances and Cost Effectiveness: For example: funding opportunities and campaigns, budgeting practices or programmatic and on-the-ground project costs
  • Operations: For example: facilities, blinds or ADA /inclusive opportunities

Important Information:

  • The deadline for submission of proposals is April 26, 2019
  • Conference registration is required for all selected presenters
  • Presentations including a commercial product or service will need to clearly demonstrate the practical value to wildlife viewing and nature tourism programs

This Academy is open to any professional in our community, including wildlife and tourism professionals, education professionals and fish and wildlife scientists.
