Description

The Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies’ Wildlife Viewing and Nature Tourism (WVNT) Working Group, is pleased to announce the 3rd Wildlife Viewing & Nature Tourism Academy. The Academy theme is Practical Training for Practitioners. Please join us in Fort Walton Beach, Florida at the Hilton Garden Inn, February 17-21, 2020.

The Wildlife Viewing & Nature Tourism Academy is a hands-on practical training aimed at showing how to make what you do better and easier. All wildlife diversity, wildlife viewing and nature tourism professionals within state and federal agencies and associated NGOs are encouraged to attend.

While our speakers and schedule are set (and it’s a great line-up!), we have four more ways you can contribute, participate, share, and enjoy yourself at the upcoming Academy:

  • IGNITE: Submit a short, 5-minute, 20-slide Ignite session on a great project, issue, notes from the field, or topic of interest you’d like to potentially present more informally at the Academy. We’ll have a great dessert buffet on-hand the evening we do these sessions as well. Learn all you need to know about Ignite sessions here. Ignite submission deadline: October 31, 2019.
  • FIRST EVER NATURE TOURISM HACKATHON: In our profession many of us work alone, covering a huge range of habitats, ecosystems, audiences, and geography. This is a chance to have a team of professionals tackle the problem. We’ll be sending out an invitation to all registrants this winter to help us select topics for this event, so be thinking about what challenge, project, problem, or radical idea you’d like to submit for consideration. We might just choose your idea to hack during this interactive session!
  • FIELD TRIPS: There are two great nature tourism-related field trips - one pre-conference on Monday, February 17 and one post-conference on Friday, February 21 – that are open to registrants and anybody traveling with them at a cost of $75/person per field trip ($150/person for both trips; full details at http://www.wvntacademy.com/field-trips.html).
  • BE A NATURE TOURIST: If your schedule allows, spend some time exploring north Florida. Our colleagues in Florida have gathered a list of all the great things you can do on your own before or after the Academy. Enjoy all that north Florida has to offer!
